Latina is one of the youngest cities in Italy.
Born with the name of Littoria following the reclamation of the Pontine Marshes, south of Rome, the city is located in the heart of a deep lowland, an ancient swamp inhabited only seasonally and infested with malaria.

Founded on 30 June 1932 within a few months Littoria became the capital of the province and the progenitor of those that are now registered as the Lazio’s Foundation Cities.
